   @djuuss I think that's the key difference in mentality, Chinese system is focused on material development as opposed to profit.

   The government invests in these large infrastructure projects because they recognize that their inherent social value.

   I recall there was a whole slew of articles like this a decade a go ridiculing HSR projects because they were so costly. Nobody's laughing now.

     @Daniel_Blake @djuuss people love quoting this stuff while ignoring context, I don't know if it's out of sheer ignorance or malice.

     China has published a concrete plan on its transition from fossils, and carbon use in China is entirely in line with that plan.
