    The funny thing about the "tough on crime," folks, is that they get genuinely angry when any laws at all are enforced against them. 🙂🙃

    Read this article and try to find out why the residents hate this rookie cop, and why the author felt the need to put his personal info in the article. Like, why do I need to know that he played lacrosse?

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13555157/justin-timberlake-arrest-sag-harbor-police-officer-recently-hired.html

    He gave a drunk driver a ticket. Isn't that what cops are supposed to do? He hasn't learned, "Don't ticket rich white people!" yet.

      @mekkaokereke @inthehands As you are of course already thinking, this makes perfect sense through their *real* frame: laws exist to reinforce a social hierarchy, one with rich white (preferably also straight and Christian) people at the top. Of *course* laws aren't not meant to punish *them*. They're meant to keep everyone *else* in their place. Forcibly.

      @mekkaokereke The wildest part of this story is the cop actually did try to give Timberlake the white guy pass. He initially let him off with a warning and told him not to drive. He only pulled him over again and charged him after dumb ass got back in his car and continued to drive drunk.

      @stevel @mekkaokereke

      No no, it's not racist, they're just placing cameras in all the areas with a lot more black motorists, because statistically black motorists do a lot more crimes. Don't you see how often they're pulled over and arrested?

      It's just such an impressive bit of circular logic and self-justification, up there with the 'shot sensing' microphones (that never really worked, anyway!)

      @mekkaokereke I think this is why there’s so much resistance to speed/red light cameras by the ruling classes. Cameras don’t show class/race bias other than in choice of placement, and you can’t get away from a ticket by announcing that your are a politician, judge, police officer.
      For everyone else: cameras don’t pick on people based on ethnicity or vehicle type, claim they smelt marijuana, and in the US: kill people.
      Automation is more egalitarian

      Camera placement though: political

      @mekkaokereke > "But in the three short months he's been on the force, he's already become known for his pull-over attempts, earning himself a nickname of 'the Sag Harbor Nazi' and a 'little red-headed dips**t' among the Hamptons' wealthy residents."

      Referring to a cop pulling someone over for blowing a stop sign under the influence as a Nazi is W I L D.

      This also reinforces the point that good cops dont exist. Guarantee the other "cops" going to have a "talk" with him.

      @mekkaokereke when they say "tough on crime" what they mean is "tough on criminals." And by "criminals" they don't mean "people who break the law" they mean "black and poor people."

      @mekkaokereke Drunk driving is a genuinely bad thing that results in a lot of deaths and injuries. This cop caught someone doing it and enforced the law.

      It's vaguely interesting that the cop didn't recognize him, but the identity of the cop should be a non-story. He did his job.

      The reaction to this shows why there are so few good cops. Do your job by the book and this is the kind of coverage it gets.

      Meet cop Justin Hanners:

      * Straight white man
      * Southern boy
      * Born and raised in Alabama
      * Military combat veteran
      * Harley riding biker
      * Police officer who believes strongly in rule of law
      * Not afraid to draw his weapon and take on "bad guys with guns"

      Sounds like many US cops. Except...

      He didn't get with the program. He didn't like harassing innocent Black folk via quotas.

      3 guesses what happened to him...

      https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zGeZiWOeGIc

      *Policing* is more racist than *cops*.

      @mekkaokereke This is how we know what policing is really for 😉 😉

      Because this dude is trying to be one of the goodies and gets this article instead

      He even treats people equally (since he treats rich assholes like the rest of us are treated) and this is the thanks they get, doxed in 3...2...1...

      And they (rich peeps) are so mad about this fair treatment it screams off the page...

      How dare it... don't you know the laws aren't meant for *me*? 🤑

      @mekkaokereke The residents seem like entitled assholes. I keep thinking of all the back folks that get pulled over for a busted tail light (or DWB) and end up getting killed.
