To the owner managing @emsc, is there a way for you to not use country hashtags for earthquakes less than magnitude 4.5? Those quakes are common in countries near the Ring of Fire, and thus spamming country hashtags with magnitudes less than 4.5.

Reserve the use of the country-level hashtags to significant quakes, I would say, magnitude 4.5 and above.

I hope that's possible, whoever is handling this bot account.

      > or example, just yesterday we collected nearly 400 reports for a M2.6.

      Exactly the point.

I am following a few country-based hashtags, and most of the content I see there are coming from @emsc for quakes less than M4.0.

I never said that you should stop posting those information, I simply suggested to not use country-based hashtags for magnitudes less than 4.0.

For example, I live in the #Philippines, and our country is very near the Ring of Fire, have plenty of faults around, have a lot of volcanoes. Of course quakes are very common, we get 800 to 12,000 quakes a year, majority of which are in the M2.0 to M3.9 range. Seeing those frequently posted in the #Philippines hashtag is “spammy”.

Please, don't take this the wrong way. It is a suggestion where a middle-ground is available. But if it is technically impossible, then I guess there's nothing that can be done. Is it?

In any case, do you have a paper or some statistic that shows using country-based hashtags for quakes less than M4.0 is highly beneficial to the general public, especially the local residents? I would love to be proven wrong that it isn't “spammy”. ^_~

      (PS I hope it's clearer.)

      Hello @youronlyone

@emsc provides information about all earthquakes worldwide, including those below magnitude 4.5. Each quake gets a unique tweet.

@lastquake, on the other hand, focuses on earthquakes that are felt by people, regardless of magnitude. This includes smaller quakes because they can still have a local impact. For example, just yesterday we collected nearly 400 reports for a M2.6.
