@kagan @AltTextHealthCheck That's not the metric by which they picked the top 50 though? This is top 50 by active users. Taking this distribution to hold for the rest of the instances is not valid in the first place (large instances have different demographics and cultures than small ones), but even if you did, you'd get an average of around 50% alt-texts across all instances. Again, this isn't a valid extrapolation though.
@AltTextHealthCheck It makes me really sad that there are only 24 instances where even a mere 50% of images have #AltText.
So, in other words, on *all of the other 1,631 instances*, it's safer to bet that any given image will be alt-less.
On the over 1,600 instances not listed here, there's less than a 1 in 6 chance that an image has an alt text.
Basically, what this is saying is that alt texts on Mastodon are far too rare.
