Anyone know why this is showing up as a top google search result for my #fediverse handle when my profile is set not to be shown in search engines? Does #gnuSocial just ignore that?

@devil My posts were set not to be indexed since I created the account (then I configured the settings to stop them being search indexed within Mastodon, as well, as soon as those settings were made available).

It's weird that there are only two Fediverse results displayed by Google for my handle — both posted by GNUSocial, one that has since been deleted and then this one. No other Fediverse instances show up. And yes, cralwers do sometimes ignore instructions I haven't seen Google do that.

@tokyo_0 Did you set that setting after posting that post maybe? If so, it does not work retroactively.

If it's not like that, I don't think it's Gnu's fault: Google can decide to index something even if you **invite** it not to.

@devil I think if #gnuSocial is presenting people's fediverse activity to the web in ways that allows it to be indexed by major search engines like Google and without honouring the privacy settings those fediverse users have specified, in a way no other fediverse instances seem to be doing, that's something that could use being addressed.

@devil Thanks for taking the time to think about it and reply to my post. I'm going to find that post it has indexed (which I just boosted) and unboost the post, in the meantime, anyway so hopefully even if the Google result remains, the content will end up being deleted like the other one.
