Red Letter Media made an entire career out of a 2-hour takedown of The Phantom Menace. There's a whole documentary about how much Star Wars fans hated George Lucas and what he'd done with the prequels. And most of those same fans *LOVE* Rogue One, which was produced by Disney (and by the way is also bad)

The entire race of alien bad guys in the prequels are called Neimoidians because it's a joke about Leonard Nimoy.
Obi-Wan is canonically from 'Stewjon' because Lucas was asked what Obi-Wan's home planet is called during a Daily Show appearance.

Even the criticisms that Disney's sequel trilogy is a "slap in the face" to the established lore is bizarre coming from people that almost universally love the EU content.
"hur hur somehow palpatine returned, what trash" hey guess what there's an entire storyline called The Dark Empire that was considered canon where Palpatine was reborn into a clone body.

By the way if you were to read the outlines George had in mind for HIS sequel trilogy, all these whining fanboys would have HATED it.
Almost every aspect about Luke from The Last Jedi that they hate so much was straight from Lucas's ideas. Grizzled, angry, alone, in exile after his student turned on him. Straight from Lucas, haters.
Yeah I'm sure they'd have loved diving into the microbiotic world of midichlorians & focusing on The Whills. That was the pitch.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not arguing the Disney Star Wars era is Good, Actually. Nor am I defending the prequels.
My point is, this revisionism where Disney is bad and everything Lucas did was great is insane.
Most Star Wars things ever produced are breathtakingly bad.
Disney did not ruin Star Wars, they bought it ruined.

The inept bad guy screwing with trade and allowing the dark forces of the sith to take over the galactic republic is named Nute Gunray.
Why? Because Lucas couldn't decide which Republican he hated more to name the villain after. So he's named after Newt Gingrich and Ronald Reagan (Ray-gun/gun-ray).

George specifically said, in interviews, one of the reasons he sold Star Wars was that the fans hated the prequels so much. The fans bullied Ahmed Best to near suicide, and Jake Lloyd left acting.
I'm not defending George or the prequels. They are really quite bad. What I'm annoyed at is suddenly pretending they were always great and only the Disney stuff is bad. Most of it is pretty bad all around.
