Who's from Metro #Vancouver?
I created a local Fediverse instance just for you: https://vancity.social
That's right, vancity.social is Vancouver's new home on the Fediverse—and everyone from Vancouver (as well as #BC) is welcome to join!

@v60fan@mastodon.scot @atomicpoet@mastodon.social I may be biased, but having run both Calckey and Mastodon instances, Calckey is 10x easier to setup and maintain.
@atomicpoet @thatonecalculator great, thanks so much for the reply. I've found some docker compose examples for Mastodon and would be very comfortable with that. Hadn't run across Calckey until I saw your post.
@v60fan Yes, I'm self-hosting vancity.social. Can't comment on comparing Calckey vs Mastodon set up because the maker of Calckey (@thatonecalculator) actually helped me set it up. In exchange, I'm going to help him with bug testing.
That said, Mastodon is pretty easy to set up since it's probably the most used Fediverse software on the Internet.
@atomicpoet may I ask if you're self-hosting vancity? If so, any comments on which instance (Calckey vs Mastodon) is easy to setup? Or maintain? Thanks.
You may want to know why vancity.social looks so different from Mastodon. That's because it's based on another Fediverse platform known as Calckey.
It's very slick, fun to use—and feature rich!
If you join vancity.social, just remember a few things:
1. This is a brand new instance—it was created yesterday
2. It's very much a work in progress, so please report bugs
3. Registrations are limited to 100 people
4. Please only join if you're from #Vancouver or #BC
5. Have fun!
I'm excited about this, and I hope in encourages more locals to join the Fediverse.
@atomicpoet @timbray you should talk to us!
@atomicpoet Cool. How do you plan to support it for the foreseeable future?
@timbray For now, I pay for it out of pocket. Eventually, I want to set up a non-profit.
@timbray Two things:
1. It's focused on Metro Vancouver
2. It runs Calckey
@atomicpoet What's unique about this instance? There are lots of options out there…
