@bread80 @haitchfive That's not how fab economics work. You can't keep a bit of an old process around in a corner for the odd little job. Either you've got it and you run it hard or you reuse the space for a more profitable option.

Bread80 (bread80@mstdn.social)'s status on Sunday, 16-Jun-2024 05:39:17 JST Bread80 @haitchfive I’m somewhat surprised that (some) older processes can’t be retained, cost reduced. They’d be very useful for short run/hobbyist designs (versus the patented cutting edge technology).
Surely lower factory cost must be useful for something? Not every chip needs ultra dense ultra small transistor size.
