     Yeah, it sure does. Though the whole thing also comes off to me as such…quaint, kid-gloved corruption compared to the crap Minneapolis police pulled with our local businesses:

     (Context for the out-of-towners: El Nuevo Rodeo was a block from the 3rd precinct building, the epicenter of the George Floyd uprising, and burned to the ground in that uprising.)

     I think in some technical sense “3rd precinct” is also the name of the building as well as the geographic area…or something…but I very much agree this phrasing has been confusing. Reporters could do better.

     I live in the 3rd Precinct (the area, NOT the building), and happily my house and all my neighbors’ houses are still standing. There are half a dozen businesses I really miss, though.

     ooh, thank you for taking care to point out the building is what burned

     it might seem a nitpick, this peeve of mine

     but a precinct is a jurisdictional area

     I've seen people elide the word "building" in saying the "3rd precinct" burned

     which makes it sound like an entire area of the city burned, instead. It can be hard to tell when this is merely careless versus deliberately provocative.
