I've just been reading about Finland during ww2. What a goddamn mess!

They are seen as the bad guys because of who they sided with but they were caught between a rock and hard place.

(For those who came in late, like me:)
* Initially after the Hitler-Stalin Pact collapsed, Finland sided with the 3rd Reich to repel Russia, who wanted to take big chunks of Finland.
* Later, after a lot of other stuff happened including most of a world war they had no choice but to take up arms against the Nazis
