     @lina Germans were settling much closer to the mouth of Volga yet in the times of Catherine the Great, so this map is stupid. And the division itself as well. Ah, wait, I remember something. From the point of view of an Anglo this map reflects the imperialistic belief of the second half of the 19th century. “The Germanic peoples” aka “One step further than Catholicism” vs “Old sad Catholic world and fucking Orthodox Russia”. As a map of political ambitions it does ring a bell.
