   There seems to be common misapprehension that CDC was providing HHS data:

   There had been plans to transfer control of HHS hospital capacity data to CDC few years back—which many of us were quite worried about, as we anticipated how CDC would disappear that data.

   Nonetheless, through April, data was still being reported to HHS; HHS was still providing data through HealthData.gov.

   Now CDC publishes via CDC.data.gov.

   Note Orwellian name of CDC division controlling it. 🧵

     Somehow HHS was able to share data below radar, perhaps because they weren't public face #PublicHealth agency serving to promote the Impact Research line:

     Ain't just that a requirement for mandatory reporting has expired.

     Is that with such expiration, #CDC was able to wrest control of public data sharing away from HHS, so to give said data the sanitized pastel/Levels treatment.

     That took eleven words & three acronyms to identify who provides this data, where HHS managed to give their own attribution with half as many lexemes is… telling.

     Especially given that HHS named itself, where #CDC names a branch of a division and a repository database, while evading naming themselves.

     They want ownership—thus culpability—pushed as far down chain of command as possible.

     Revising People's CDC suggested template letter to Centers for Medicare and Medicaid re: covid reporting.

     In my version, focusing on:

     a) restoration of hospital capacity data—as per HHS dataset up until April;

     b) restoration of control of dataset to HHS;

     c) restoration of public access to facilities level data;

     d) proactively including breakdown of zoonotic flu separately from total flu cases;

     e) tightening hospital-onset window for all respiratory illness.

     When public data not only moves servers, but changes hands from "U.S. Dept of Health and Human Services" to "CDC Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion, Surveillance Branch"…

     Is it any wonder that same data would go from 135 daily columns of state data and 127 weekly columns of facilities data to an expurgated 64 columns of aggregate state level data?

     Gives a very different connotation to the subsidiary identifier "Surveillance Branch"…

     To be clear, this was a given, from initial founding of People's CDC.

     Was clear early on that their ideological commitments limited their ability to appraise the CDC for the white supremacist organization that it is and has been.

     There's a reason labor folk at NIOSH spoke of the CDC as "the Plantation".

     Just as there's a reason for ACT UP's Atlanta banner drop reading "CDC KILLS".

     But liberals are gonna liberal, and thus we get the "People's CDC"—without any reflection on the legacy so aped.

     Myself, am old enough to remember when we all had to learn that liking and trusting someone was not a prophylactic…

     A lesson that too many have yet to learn again now—when air has become a more taboo topic of discussion than sex.

     Which means am also old enough to remember how the CDC handled HIV/AIDS.

     Liking and trusting white supremacist (thus health supremacist), organizations that operate within a white supremacist nation-state is not a prophylactic.

     Nor is prepending the word "People's".

     In other news, am growing increasingly irritated by how deeply invested the People's CDC is in their stylization of themselves after the CDC as agency.

     Their entire draft letter presents the question of this data collection as if prior infrastructure for its collection and dissemination hadn't existed before HHS gave it up to CDC.

     HHS was already doing this reliably for years, until just weeks ago.

     From People's CDC's text, one would think it was hospitals—not the CDC itself—withholding data.

     Also, fuck it, asking also that:

     f) emergency room data, which was absent from the HHS dataset, be added, again at the facilities level.

     Because the whole point of wanting this dataset is so that folk can make decisions for their own safety.
