I had my first experience with a FOIA request with one of my emails recently getting published.
It was weird seeing my full writing published by someone else, but it is a good reminder that just about everything I do at work is public record.

@crawfordsm One time I got a FOIA request for an NSF proposal. The legal department at my university reached out to me, wanted to set up a bunch of calls and so on, the NSF was somehow involved, and it was just a big todo. Anyway, the proposal was already on figshare, so when I wrote I asked if they would consider citing it by DOI if they used anything from it.
Conversely, our local school board and newspaper have been FOIA-ing text messages and it's been really ugly.
@powersoffour with my open science hat, it is just much easier to be transparent.
And that is such a good point - if you are going to have to share it anyway, might as well get a citation!
