In my opinion - I think more people in the cyber industry and government should be speaking out against Copilot Recall being deployed in this manner.

I think most people will know what harm it will cause having a text database of everything the user has ever typed and viewed. Our parents will be using this.

I know it will drive business through incidents but.. surely there’s a line?

It feels so profoundly depressing, and like nobody cares about actually securing things for people.

@Ozwel @GossiTheDog as far as I understood it’s taking screenshots, then have “AI” classify the content, generate metadata and store that in a database for future search with some RAG. In theory it could also do OCR and store that as text.

There’s a lot of FUD being spread. Windows is already more than capable of recording everything you do without Recall. I would argue that it’s great that Microsoft is now giving the user convenient access to it!

@GossiTheDog isn't it just about taking screenshots? Are you sure keyboard inputs are recorded?

Nah, the people who care about this already use Linux (AND they DO speak out about this crap.)

But this is just par for the course. Recall seems worse than using closed source proprietary software, but as bad as entrusting all your business data to Amazon/Google/MS's servers, which every business effectively does.

I think it could get a lot worse than Recall before users go elsewhere.

@neo @Ozwel @GossiTheDog what are the computer resource implications of this?
A screenshot every 5 minutes, even with OCR might not be too terrible, but does it have to re-run AI learning on it, and everything previous, every time it gets that 5 minutes update?
ChatGPT was well known for not knowing about anything recent because it was so expensive to run.
