   This AI shit in Windows (and everywhere honestly) might be the thing that pushes me over the edge into switching to #Linux.

   Gentlepersons please help out a rather digiphobic analogous midlifer:

   If I were to switch to the penguin, what would I need to get started?

   Part of my bread is editing texts in .docx; main editor won't appreciate different formats and layouts.

   I also want to keep using Steam and GOG.

     @erikcats LibreOffice can edit docx. Install it now on Windows, make copies of existing documents, edit them in some way typical for you, then look at them with Microsoft Office again. If they look fine just use LibreOffice. If not: Buy CrossOver Office to run Microsoft Office on Linux, it was 40$ last I checked some years ago.
