     same here. Noah, Matteo, Leo, Finn, Felix, Luis are very trendy German middle class names.
     
     Ibrahim, Yusuf, Mustafa, Mehmet, Ömer, Ahmet are very common among Turkish minority.
     
     Alexandr, Anatoli, Nicolai, Serhei, Taras are common among Ukrainians. Vladimir probably no longer?

     also did not consider that Waldemar is related.

Dabei wird wald-a- wiederum auf die indoeuropäische Wurzel val- zurückgeführt, vgl. lateinisch valere für „stark sein“, „gelten“, „bedeuten“. Und mǣrja soll aus dem Komparativ mē-r zu mē- (indoeuropäisch für „groß“) entstanden sein, vgl. irisch Inis Mór („große Insel“) und deutsch „Meerrettich“ (eigentlich „große Wurzel“).[1]
     
     Somit steht der im germanischen Sprachbereich verwendete Name Waldemar/Valdemar dem im Slawischen verbreiteten Vornamen Wladimir/Vladimir/Wolodymyr etymologisch recht nahe.

     @kaia @lain eh even if they came from the same root the connotations can be wildly different
     
     Tomas and Tomasz give less…favorable connotations as opposed to Thomas to German and English speakers
