     exactly .... its hard to believe these exist... to be able to sculpt that hard stone in a manner that seems impossible ....

     The craftsmen who used to polish marble statues at the time all refused to touch it because they were afraid to break it, so Francesco Queirolo, the artist, had to do all the polishing himself. That's a single piece of marble.
     
     Cappella Sansevero in Naples, where this is displayed, also has the Cristo Velato statue by Giuseppe Sanmartino, another almost unbelievable marvel, and the Anatomical Machines, amazing models of the circulatory system built in the 1760s.
