Slovak Prime Minister Robert #Fico suffered life-threatening injuries when he was shot and wounded in an attempted assassination on Wednesday, the government office said.
Fico, 59, was rushed to hospital in the central city of #Handlova after holding a government meeting there, and was being transported by helicopter to the city of Banska Bystrica for urgent treatment, it said.

@Peternimmo Fico is the leader of the Smer party which is a left-wing nationalist, I'm assuming this is what they are referring to when using "leftist".

2/ According to SME, the shooter of Fico was a 50-year-old man. He opened fire when the prime minister came to greet several dozen supporters while leaving the government meeting.
The shooter was among them, the eyewitness heard two or three shots. After them, the Prime Minister fell to the ground, immediately surrounded by policemen. The shooter was subsequently pacified.
