Would I want a council of religious scholars to approve each new product or invention?
Nope. I can just imagine the world of neverending dreariness that would spawn.
A more experimental culture will win against that, even if in the process said libertines destroy their morals.

@judgedread Any successful society has to have a way to counter memetic malware, whether it’s trannyism or flat earthism or what have you. That’s what religion is; the revelation of how to live in harmony with the laws of nature and nature‘s God.
Technology is like fire, a very powerful tool, that, properly controlled, can build wonders, but if unleashed can destroy on a massive scale. A society that loses its spiritual immune system through the attrition of technology ends up where we are now; an atomized bunch of depressed sacks of flab and nihilism. Such a society can’t last very long.
Some means of controlling technology will have to evolve. But fortunately, we still have a deep well of Christian memestock from which to draw our defenses.

@judgedread I think I’d prefer a council of Christian scholars figuring out how best to turn each new product to their own ends. Like the jews do now, except good.

@AuntNorma You can't bring back limited memetic space without severely restricting technology. A single religion can only maintain power by banning all the others. Even the simple power of the web - text and images - will eat away at any orthodoxy if people can access any site that strikes their fancy.
