@coldfish countries that have done far worse have recovered their reputations. i suspect people in Israel figure whatever anger they get will blow over. maybe it sticks this time, but it usually doesn't.

Dan Morris (coldfish@sfba.social)'s status on Tuesday, 14-May-2024 12:00:06 JST Dan Morris i wonder if Israelis care that their reputation as a country is permanently tarnished. I mean, I will never buy, sell or work with anyone or any service from that country. I'll never trust anything they have to say or vote for people that support them if there is literally any other acceptable option.

Philip Weiss (Phil in SF) (kingrat@sfba.social)'s status on Wednesday, 15-May-2024 05:24:16 JST Philip Weiss (Phil in SF) It'll take generations for Gazans to not be angry. I mean, they're still angry about the Nakba, so I can't imagine this will fade any faster.
For the record, I wasn't thinking so much of Nazis when I was talking about nations that have done worse. I'm thinking about incidents like Serbia and Srebrenica and the Rwandan Tutsi genocide. Neither Serbia nor Rwanda are international pariahs at the moment, though they were 25 years ago. Not everyone has welcomed those countries back to the international community with open arms. Not everyone forgives & forgets. But by and large the world just marks those as incidents in the past, and Israel may expect that.
