Fact is, a for-profit company like Twitter (even if private) needs to at least pretend to monetize. Big corporations are never going to pay for ads displayed next to "racist" or "sexist" content, so they have to censor in order to appease the advertisers (their actual customers).
Since nobody is making any money off Fediverse, the incentives are different. -

Well if the comedy is coming back on twitter... Then it'll be a big L for the fediverse because the fediverse works more like this because instances get offended and defederate. It is not possible for a funny thing to trend on a larger scale. -

There's basically the mastodon dot social fediverse and the blocked by mastodon social fediverse. Honestly, I don't think that anything they have to say I'd find funny and/or vice versa. Not being forced to go to the same swimming pool seems more like a feature than a bug, to be honest.
Is anyone gonna become a fediverse millionaire influencer? Probably not. Again, I don't see this as a bug. I'm not even sure it's a natural phenomenon on the big sites, since "popular" accounts also coincidentally are the ones the algorithm puts in everybody's feed, no matter what. -

Poast has a lot of operation costs because they are running alot more than the pleroma software.

I was just listening to a podcast from a website that has literally thousands of hours of episodes available to listen to as well as books/papers to read etc, and he saif in the one i was listening to that his costs are 1k a month.

I think the fact that one of the biggest fediverse instances is basically being bankrolled by some guy out of his own pocket is a tribute to how lightweight and efficient the pleroma software is. -

I also appreciate that being such a huge instance, graf has operational security concerns that most instance operators don't need to consider. It's pretty unlikely that someone from Vice or the Washington Post will log onto Gleasonator and try to datamine the users in order to dox them and ruin their lives, but that's been attempted on Poast on multiple occasions that I can remember. Even before graf purged me politely asked me to leave I was on the verge of jumping ship because every thread was sprinkled with “this poast is not available” because at some point one of graf’s (too many) jannies got buttmad at some instance owner and defederated them.
Seems like getting on Poast long enough to get your account discovered and then migrating to a more “normal” instance is becoming a standard right of passage, these days.

Oh boy that sucks. I'm trying to lead by example and run an instance that doesn't do stupid things like that. Think it is doing well. When mods get a taste of power... They become corrupted...
