How to migrate from one Mastodon server to another without losing followers:
1. Sign up on new server
2. On NEW server: Go to Account -> Moving FROM another account
3. Enter old account's handle
4. On OLD server: Go to Account -> Moving TO another account
5. Enter new account's handle and submit

@Gargron I've heard from several people for who this did not work and who's followers etc. didn't get transferred properly. Any idea what the reason for that could be? Or is it a temporary glitch because of how busy the servers are? ?

@Gargron Why can I Boost different people depending on which server I’m on? Have fewer options to boost when logged into l Glammr.us vs Mastodon.Social, plus I can only see a handful of Toots from people before being prompted to sign into their server to see more.
Is it something I can fix or is it just a feature of a federated system?

@Gargron, thanks for the info! I'm new to mastodon.social & thinking of moving to another server. Being a developer, I've considered @fosstodon, but their English-only policy (and moderation) is a turn-off for me.

@Gargron One of the biggest complaints/warnings to possible new Mastodon users is that any instance can disappear and you lose everything (followers, etc). It is surprising that this has not been addressed with a migrate export/backup feature. ie. let people plan ahead or do it automatically between two instances (sync).

Is there a solution to migrate even if the old account already isn't accessable any longer?
In my case: bear.community was suspended for being over limits. Users haven't been informed ahead of the suspension. I was told that all data will be deleted in 10days if there's no solution with the community admin.
Not being warned that this could happen and not being able to save followers and data really doesn't feel good. It doesn't feels mastodon-like.
