     @WarnerCrocker “I ask that when you cast your vote, you remember that Stonewall Jackson and others fighting on the side of the Confederacy in this area were intent on protecting the land, the buildings and the lives of those under attack,” said a woman urging the board to restore the Confederate names.

     And slavery. They were intent on protecting slavery.

     @fortboise I grew up with those myths. My grandmothers both went to their graves calling the Civil War the War of Northern Agression.

     @WarnerCrocker We've got a closet full of skeletons in this country. And history apparently isn't worth a bucket of warm spit when the right psychopath comes along.

     The part I had no ability to imagine is how fertile our ground was for recruiting a new team of brownshirts.

     @fortboise In some places I know well those skeletons are on proud display in living rooms.

     I have/had the same lack of imagination re: the brownshirt resurgence.
