    wow the signal usernames design is good actually:
    - username is exclusively an "adding you" thing
    - this is because they are one way of getting an invitation to chat with you
    - there's also randomized and resettable links that can be shared for this
    - usernames must always have discriminator numbers, which can be freely selected
    - usernames aren't shown to anyone you are in chats with
    - by default phone numbers are no longer shared with chats

    this seems to have basically Fixed it

      @leftpaddotpy @q I have concerns that close reading of the signal blog about this and KB articles about this is that signal messages will still be sent by the network with the sender's phone number, because from their description it is the receiver's client choosing not to display it, and that seems problematic given the existence of 3rd party clients and if this is true it is not safe and should not be relied upon to not send your number to everyone still and am I the only person who sees this?
