     Turns out nobody builds their own NAS and certainly nobody orders ECC RAM, which is the weirdest part.

     @Polychrome Years ago after I moved to yet another apartment, a cable guy who came to bring me a vital broadband internet connection, told me that he was very surprised to see a router which was just a desktop PC with two ethernet adapters, not some D-Link crap.

     @kimleo85 I see that some ready made NAS now have ECC memory so things are looking better. Mostly I built my own since I wanted more control over it.

     @Polychrome I always felt like I was being overly paranoid when I built my own NAS with ECC memory, but it's been going since 2015 iirc, only one HDD replaced(RaidZ1), although I should probably replace the others, considering how long it's been running. But most people I know just buy something ready made, even other techie types. 🤷♂️
