Woo, edit button just went live on mastodon.online! ?
Apparently it will be rolled out to all Mastodon servers in the next update.
(This only works if you're logged in on the website by the way, not the app.)

@feditips That is awesome!!
@feditips will people know the toot has been edited and which boosts were before the edit etc?
Yes, there will be a label saying it's been edited and when it was edited. Also people who replied before the edit will get a notification. Don't know about boosts yet, only just saw this ?
@feditips mastodon.social has this already. Maybe mastodon.social got these features because it's Gargron's instance?
Yes, mastodon.social and mastodon.online are both owned by the Mastodon developers. They often use them for doing final tests on new features just before release.
@feditips
Nice, but it does need to be on the app too.
Yes, definitely. I assume the official app will get this when it's updated.
I think someone mentioned a third party app that already has this? It's worth trying out the third party apps because they generally have more features than the official one.
Third party apps are listed on the official site at https://joinmastodon.org/apps
I'm not sure, just tried to look and couldn't find it!
Whatever it is though, anyone who replied before the edit gets a notification when the edit happens, so they can change their replies if necessary. Plus the post is marked as edited etc.
@feditips what's the time cap for the Edit??
Edit - Edits the post
Delete & re-draft - Deletes the post, and pastes a copy of that post into the editing box. You can then make changes and re-post, but it will technically be a new post. (Yes this is complicated, the only reason this exists is because Edit didn't exist then. They might remove this option in the future.
Delete - Deletes the post
@feditips what is the difference with delete and repost?
That was a deliberate design decision by the makers of the software:
@feditips @tuxicoman
Too bad we can't quote a share like on Twitter, that would be really good.
