this plot line is so unhinged, that in a normal world, this is the only thing any one would be talking about, the late-night show punchlines would be non-stop, but since it’s occurring against a chaotic and messy backdrop, it’s escaping commentary

Trojan Duck (todwest@mastodon.world)'s status on Saturday, 04-May-2024 19:53:42 JST Trojan Duck @tokyo_0 I don't see this as a new trend, especially since they were caught, in this case and the one in Canada (though the latter plot was successful). Chile assassinated dissident Orlando Letelier in Washington D.C. in 1976, so this is not without precedent. In Chile's case, the Americans were okay with the outcome given that Nixon/Ford backed Pinochet. At the same time, blowback is what we deserve for all our decades of meddling in the affairs of other countries.

Twitter doesn’t even have an API but I think they did plan to have this feature in their premium tier. Threads wouldn’t delete the posts but is planning to make them private after some time. BlueSky has an API so there are some 3rd party services that do so and of course you can write your own. But I like it just being an option here on Mastodon.

Trojan Duck (todwest@mastodon.world)'s status on Saturday, 04-May-2024 20:10:49 JST Trojan Duck @tokyo_0 I completely agree. I'm saying that it's far more likely to be an exception than a new rule. And, of course, there are all the killings we haven't heard about. I'm guessing it happens fairly frequently, and most of the time they get away with it completely. Corporations too. It's just possible that Boeing is killing off whistle-blowers, though this is really more of a conspiracy theory at this point. But it's not entirely implausible. See: Karen Silkwood.
