     the trick is to Jesus-fy the cult. one charismatic leader is a point of failure. but claiming there's this perfect dude who did something self-sacrificing to save you and you are his friend is pretty smart.

     I remember the woman that claimed to be both Jesus and Buddha reincarnated. My favorite story was I went into a cult with a coworker, and the coworker started buying it. This was after another cult in OR that poisoned an entire town happened. A lot of cults in PNW.
