The bigger issue here is that journalism is currently doomed to exist under these power structures. Being a supposedly principled career journalist is a contradiction in terms - not least when they're switching sides from "greedy corporate website" to "website backed by dark money from Russian-related interests" and suddenly retain their concerns of imperialism to the western brand. I analysed this in greater detail here, arriving at a proposed solution: https://www.mediaactivist.com/manifesto/
Imagine cutting through the walls of Meta and X, to share a space online where we can disseminate information within and across communities, with no ads or algorithms, just grassroots journalism, details of campaigns, and diaries of actions. We can have this: Fediverse meets French Mutu media model. Imagine how transformative such radical media of our very own might be.
@MediaActivist I just wanted to say how well written this is (including the HTML / CSS) I read a lot of political manifestos and this really slaps and doesnt have an excess of buzzwords and cliches, and I would recommend this is so called apolitical people, which is real
And yeah we need working class journalism and we just normal establishing the kind of digital media infrastructure to to make this happen.
Personal I wish there was a website like buzzfeed or vice that was actually controlled by socialists, published articles written by workers. There are a few that approach this but either lack the degree of professionalism(sic) or are too narrow ideologically to have that kind of mass appeal.
