I'm yet again involved in a project in which the user has to select a title (e.g. Mr, Mrs, Dr, Mx, etc). This stuff always sparks some interesting conversations because (in my experience) most companies want to give the idea of "being woke" without actually doing any of the work/providing any value to non binary people or gender questioning individuals.
The reason why I say this is because very often, selecting "prefer not to say" or "Mx" as your title actually reduces your chances to get whatever you are trying to get from that system.
This is because many APIs (especially in the banking sector) only respond to certain "titles" or give you an eligibility rate that is equal to the amount and quality of information provided. So for example selecting "prefer not to say" will decrease your eligibility rate for, dunno, like a credit card for example.
Queer people are more likely to experience financial hardship, and the fact that the systems that should help them are designed to exclude them is absolutely fucked up.
I feel that I'm about to pick another battle that I won't win but let's see what happens
