This is big news, and long overdue. This should have been the classification from the beginning.

Since I neither drink nor do pot, I’ve had the chance to observe the effects of both from a neutral position and at arm’s lenghth for many a year. And wowee, let me tell you (like you don’t already know), alcohol is •far• more dangerous than marijuana. It’s not even close.
If I’m around people who are drunk, I’m worried I’m going to be assaulted. If I’m around people toking up, I’m worried I’m going to be bored.
The DEA classification of the two has always been just baffling.

P.S. Cynics in the replies, please either allow yourself to enjoy a bit of unalloyed good news or just piss off. Either is fine.

@inthehands It has long amazed me, considering how we treat other substances, that alcohol is *not* a scheduled substance. Between short-term effects (alcohol poisoning, drunk driving, vomiting) and long-term effects (liver damage, addiction), how do we NOT treat alcohol as if it's at least as dangerous as cocaine?!?
(*I do not endorse the war on drugs, it's stupid, dangerous, and racist. But just sayin, in comparison...)
