playing #pokemon on non-nintendo hardware tastes like coke out of a pepsi bottle or kraft mac and cheese with barilla pasta or something.

Varyag (varyag@udongein.xyz)'s status on Wednesday, 01-May-2024 07:13:50 JST Varyag @buru5 @rootcompute I don't know if it is, but honestly my entire life I played Pokemon on *alternative means* without any chance for pokemon transfer, trading or any sort of multiplayer, until I bought a 3DS for Alpha Sapphire. I'm used to being uh, isolated, when I play those games. Hell, last time I got an itch to do so, I found ROMhacks that allow tradeless evolutions because I was tired of being locked out of those specific forms.
That's just uh, normal Pokemon for me, that's what I wanted to say. -

rootCompute (rootcompute@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 01-May-2024 07:13:51 JST rootCompute @buru5 I think it's better in a lot of ways, mainly with save states and emulator speedup when available. I'm struggling to connect this to your food metaphor, though

forrest (buru5@mstdn.games)'s status on Wednesday, 01-May-2024 07:13:51 JST forrest @rootcompute it's better from a pure gameplay perspective, absolutely. i think, for me, the inability to transfer pokes to other versions (easily or ahem, officially) and the lack of connectivity to other people is what makes it feel off.
the context here is i plan on playing crystal on my miyoo mini plus and it feels a little weird. i haven't looked much into trading/battling with others on weirdo hardware though, maybe it's possible?
