The hardware my instance runs on is much weaker than an average modern midrange phone. It has 1,5 GHz single-core CPU and a gigabyte of RAM for example.
It might sound surprising, but Pleroma (and Akkoma by extension) do work on this kind of hardware. You wouldn't be able to have many users on such hardware though. Mine even gets overwhelmed by incoming traffic sometimes, even though I'm the only one using it.kaia likes this.
