There seems to be a slowly rising tide of Cold War nostalgia. Not the 80s. nostalgia, but the nostalgia for the conflict itself. Its romanticised pop-culture version is a) heroic, and b) very symmetrical. Kinda like old Bond movies.

I don't play this particular card very often, but in this case - it does feel very colonial.

While you were enjoying your Bond moves, we were trying to get Russians to go away, while bartering cigarettes for flour. There's nothing to be nostalgic about.

BTW, part of what I always liked about the Fallout series is that, while it was very US-centric (e.g. tons of jokes that you had to know something about the US to get), it was also critical. The pre-was US it depicts is clearly a terrible place, and the nuclear war is a consequence of that. Despite being US-centric, it felt relatable, e.g. because you could imagine Corvega wrecks in the streets of a nuked Warsaw.

(I guess it helped that there are no Russians)
