      @steve @nixCraft You can choose your depth when you clone it.

      It must have been a while since I checked out the linux repo. The last time I checked, the .git was smaller than the checked-out directories. 😅

      (thanks to deltas, compression and only a few files instead of thousands of inodes)

      @nixCraft Makes you wonder how much of that history is actually necessary. I mean sure it's necessary for posterity, but how much smaller would the repo be if we only kept the last 10 years?
