  I have no idea what's going on here, but I rounded up the complaints and reached out to Apple for more info. Seems like a very bad problem, especially if you have Stolen Device Protection enabled. https://9to5mac.com/2024/04/26/signed-out-of-apple-id-account-problem-password/

  @jamesthomson @ChanceHMiller Agreed. As I said to Chance in a reply on Threads:
  In an age when we are constantly on alert for being hacked/phished/scammed Apple owes an explanation and I would say if this was a back end maintenance or update issue (both of which can cause unexpected problems) a warning ahead of time.

  @ChanceHMiller I think there are two main scenarios: “we fucked up a software update” or “we got hacked”. I would very much like to know which!
