   I’ll just take this news of ShotSpotter being creepy police-state surveillance apparatus that operates outside of normal oversight mechanisms as an opportunity to remind everyone that is ShotSpotter is also a mechanism for whitewashing police bias with statistics by taking a map of where police put microphones and presenting it as a supposed map of where gun violence occurs. https://infosec.exchange/@patrickcmiller/112332381931147559

     @inthehands they also often just make up gunfire reports that never happened. Not even like false positives. They just lie about things that never happened. Sometimes because cops ask them to. Sometimes just on their own initiative, to sic cops on neighborhoods that were just minding their own business.

     @inthehands @jhv Here in Durham, one of their chief officers was caught red-handed sock puppeting on Twitter, talking up the company and shitting on skeptical residents.
