@aral Oh jeez, why can‘t people learn from history? iPod? iPhone? iPad? AppleWatch? Every new product category had a sales slump after a few months. And smartasses immediately and smugly explained how these devices were too expensive, hadn‘t enough features or any other criticism you can hear now about the VisionPro.
Well, didn‘t turn out too bad for Apple. Every.Single.Time.
Learn from it!
@dgavin This is a flawed design that should have been shot down at the earliest stages. Not for any technical reason but a social one. It’s dorky. Unless it is inconspicuous, it will always be dorky. And that’s not a natural evolution of this design.
Also: Apple isn’t some singular entity. Apple was, to a great degree, an anomaly of a guy who got design and understood people (how different things could have been if he also hadn’t been a die-hard capitalist we can only imagine).
@aral Better? I remember that up until the early 10s I never made phone calls on the road because I didn’t want to be the only dork to do that.
Expectations change, the technology shrinks. Apple has the money and the patience to wait for it.
@dgavin (You get me contact lenses that can do this or a direct neural link – free and open source, of course, not owned and controlled by Silicon Valley psychopaths – then I’m excited. Until then, it’s a fun, dorky niche and, imho, an indication of a corporation that has lost its rudder, chasing the current. But, equally, not something I can find the energy to get worked up about.) :)
