     Just completed my annual subscription ‘renewal’ with NY Times, which once again has gone like this.

     Step 1 - Learn that I will renew at a new price of ~$200 and immediately turn off auto-renewal.

     Step 2 - Let the subscription lapse, immediately get offered a year for $50, and subscribe again.
