I didn't really have many action figures as a kid. I think my friend Tony left a Dr. Doom at my house once. I was more into hotwheels and matchbox cars. That's usually what I'd get from the toy store. I think there may have been some car-based toons, but I don't really recall any of them (except the failed pilot of the Crash Test Dummies). I never got into Transformers or G.I. Joe ... preferred Eek the Cat, Exo Squad and some of the sillier Caturday morning toons.

i was always rather picky with the toy ad animes. i liked pokémon and digimon because some of them were cute (plus the digimon anime has always had pretty good writing imo). yu-gi-oh was also alright. but many of the other toy ad animes were too "edgy" for me to properly get invested in, at least the shounen ones. most of them were entertaining enough, but i just couldn't bring myself to care about those edgy toys.

people talk a lot about the western 30-minute animated toy commercials from the 80s, but the 24-minute japanese toy commercials from the late 90s and early 2000s were also definitely very real. most anime we got over here at the time were glorified toy commercials
