@skyblond while btrfs and LVM can be used to get similar results in some ways they really dont overlap that much. I run all my laptops with LVM+LUKS+BTRFS and i find it to be a great setup... I also use raid when there are multiple drives

For now I only have 1 disk with LVM+LUKS+Brtfs, but in the future I do have a plan to add another disk to saturate my nuc. I'll see how lvm helps at that time.

Also you are likely going to need different formats on different partitions so you will need LVM anyway.
