On April 3, 2024, Hatewatch published an article detailing an online conversation Kentucky State Representative candidate (and former Liberty Hangout managing editor) TJ Roberts had in 2017 in which he blamed Jewish people for “white genocide.” Let’s dive in a little deeper.

The article noted that the screenshots were leaked by an anonymous source. In the conversation, Roberts wrote that “I’m actually 25% (((them))) and am trying to not get the Zuck again” in response to a comment by the leaker Roberts deleted in a FB group Roberts helped run.

The triple parentheses used by Roberts is a way that online alt-righters denote that someone or something is Jewish, and it is clear Roberts knew this. In response to Roberts’s message, the leaker wrote “I did not know that. Are you on (((their))) side?”

Roberts replied with “No, I’m a religious Christian and quite frankly I’m sick of them promoting white genocide.” The leaker responded saying “not sure I’ve ever seen a Jew acknowledge white genocide” and said that TJ was “one of the good ones.”

Roberts replied by saying that “[Liberty Hangout founder Justin] Moldow is one too.” Despite the fact that it is exceedingly clear that Roberts was blaming Jews for white genocide, after the leak, Roberts still attempted to act as if his words were “out of context.”

As per the Cincinnati Enquirer: “Roberts told The Enquirer he was not referencing Jewish people and said some of his ancestors were Jewish. As far as not being ‘on the side’ of Jewish people, he said he was mocking someone online who was making antisemitic comments.”

“‘Obviously, I wish I had worded this better in order to have conveyed my sarcasm better for third-party readers. I stand by my statement that this conversation is entirely out of context and is being used to convey beliefs that I do not hold now, nor have I ever held,’ he said.”
