  NASA’s Ingenuity Mars helicopter became the first vehicle to achieve powered, controlled flight on another planet when it took to the Martian skies on April 19, 2021. This video maps the location of the 72 flights that the helicopter took over the course of nearly three years. Ingenuity far surpassed expectations — soaring higher and faster than previously imagined. Designed to be a technology demonstration that would make no more than five test flights in 30 days, Ingenuity eventually flew more than 14 times farther than the distance expected, and logged more than two hours of total flight time.   @matrixsasuke@fedi.absturztau.be sure you can do that, but its still inevitable that dust will accumulate over time. also its not just the solar panels where the dust can cause problems. like it will impact the mechanical parts as well and lead to failures due to lockups, sanded away parts, friction and stuff like that

  @puniko perhaps they have some sort of smart engineering solution for that... like making the geometry such that the rotors always blow off enough dust to reload...

  @matrixsasuke@fedi.absturztau.be that only prolongs the inevitable for a bit. despite that, if you even manage to protect it from the dust, its still inevitable that it will fail to function at one point in the future, just by the fact that akku packs will lose capacity over time :akko_shrug: its basic physics
