If you look at history, the process of starting a war is always tricky. Demonizing your enemy is crucial.

Iran is not a powerless nation, so it likely chose to attack with an ulterior motive. (e.g this wasn't lashing out ) So the question to ask is then: what was their motive?

The most likely answer is to gain regional or international support.

@WilhelmIII no, that's the excuse. It's like the Lusitania - a reason to take action.

      Their motive?

The Israelis bombed their embassy two weeks ago.

That's an act of war going back to the Treaty of Westphalia.

Israel declared war by blowing up Iranians on Iranian soil.

      They don't need an excuse.

        Timeline: Israeli Attacks on Iran
Since 2010, Israel has allegedly conducted at least two dozen operations – including assassinations, drone strikes and cyberattacks – on Iran. Most of the targets were connected to Tehran’s controversial nuclear program, which Israel considers an existential threat. In 2022, however, two facilities that were part of Iran’s increasingly advanced drone program were hit by drones. Israel has also reportedly targeted military commanders responsible for operations abroad. The following is a timeline of attacks on Iran allegedly carried out by Israel since 2010.

@WilhelmIII @idea_enjoyer no, not true at all. If they had done a small attack and no missiles had gotten though, the israelis would have crowed that their missile defense made them invincible.

@WilhelmIII yes, and en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israeli_bombing_of_the_Iranian_embassy_in_Damascus has a lot of "allegedly" as well.

      bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-68811276

also specifically doesn't say they did it. Now, in this sense I trust the brit because they take their use of allegation versus fact seriously.

Israeli bombing of the Iranian embassy in Damascus
On 1 April 2024, an Israeli airstrike destroyed the Iranian consulate annex building adjacent to the Iranian embassy in Damascus, Syria, killing 16 people, including a senior Quds Force commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi, and seven other IRGC officers. Two civilians were killed in the attack. The airstrike took place during a period of heightened tension between Israel and Iran, and amidst the Israel–Hamas war and the Israel–Hezbollah conflict. Many countries and international organizations condemned the attack. On 13 April 2024, Iran retaliated against the attack with missile and drone strikes against Israel. with Iran claiming it was primarily targeting the bases from which the attack on the consulate was launched. Background Since 2013 Iran has maintained a presence of its troops in Syria in response to the Syrian civil war, as Syria is a crucial ally of Iran. Additionally, it has been involved in training and funding paramilitary forces from Hezbollah, along with foreign militias from Iraq and Afghanistan, not only in Syria...

      I'm aware.

      Note the "allegedly" part.

They've killed diplomats on the street, they've bombed camps in Syria. They've done all kinds of shit.

They've never before bombed an embassy.

But always, always, always, Israel is always attacked for no reason at all.

Officially the Israelis don't have nukes either.

But they've admitted in the open more than once.

I'm sure that if they told their friends at the jew York Times that they did it, then they did it.

@WilhelmIII for sure, and we know they are the ones that have been killing iranians even when they are in iran.

The difference here is that a) NYT asked for confirmation and b) some idiots juiced up on their own koolaid told them.
