     If you had seen the dumb things I have seen people click on... ransomware spam is dummy easy to get someone to bite on.
     
     In my honest opinion ransomware problems fall completely at the feet of the MS Exchange admin for whatever company gets merc'd. Need to tighten up that filter game.

     It's absolutely a thing. One of the largest movers of industrial product in the world got utterly fucked by a download link in a phony email just a few years ago, and it is a constant threat even now.

     It's easy. It looks like a link to a web page judging by the email you received but it's a link to a nasty download. No one hovers over a link, they just mindlessly click because they are on autopilot.
