I think @flathub should implement an official way for apps to indicate if they're using offline and/or online AI/LLM features, and require all apps using such to disclose which type. This should be displayed prominently, like the verified/unverified badge or the "potentially unsafe" or "community built" thingies.

    Also Gnome Software.

I don't want to install and run the app before finding I can't use it b/c it's sending my data to the most evil corps in the world

@cassidy @flathub I get your point. But it's kinda like the "why have an unverified badge" thing. If they mention their AI features in their description, or has a name hinting about it, or you've heard rumors from elsewhere, but there's no official info about whether it's on- or offline, then that could create uncertainty. And some might not want to use offline models either.

@flathub @forteller for *offline* LLM features, I’m not sure if that warrants flagging? Do we need to flag the types of algorithms used if they're used offline?

@forteller online LLM features are covered by OARS social-info:

      >Information Sharing
      >
      >Defined as sharing information with a legal entity typically used for advertising or for sending back diagnostic data.
      >
      >For example, this would include sending your purchasing history to Amazon.
      >
      >None
      >Mild: Using any online API, e.g. a user-counter
      >Moderate: Sharing diagnostic data not identifiable to the user, e.g. profiling data
      >Intense: Sharing information identifiable to the user, e.g. crash dumps

@flathub I really appreciate the fast reply here! Unfortunately I'm not sure I totally understand what I'm reading. What is OARS social-info? How is this communicated on the apps page on Flathub? Thanks!

@cassidy @flathub I'm open to the possibility that I'm wrong, though. These are just my first thoughts :)
