     He could walk if he had basic means. Even sharing a place with a friend is better than this. He'd have to go to work, tho.

     Nothing about his appearance of demeanor says, "Hire me."

     I conclude he IS unemployed and living off her.

     Look I get the whole, 'been out of work so long it's hard to imagine yourself ever being hired again.'

     That spell is self-imposed and can only be broken by trying.

     So I empathize more with THAT sadness in his life, but there's no honor in living off someone else.
