@disarray@fedi.layer02.net You really think Germans are good at English? I live next to the German border and anyone over the age of 35 has a better time understanding me if I just speak Dutch than if I speak English.

East german border? Most never even learned english in school then. It's a relic from when germany was still divided, east germans learned russian in school instead of english.
Most younger people should at least understand english. It's hard for me to fully disagree though, I've seen plenty of mid twenties people who don't speak a word of english even though they had to learn it in school.
Probably because there just isn't really a need for it. Most consumed norman social media is in german and movies etc. are translated anyways
