   @cammerman I agree with this. I've pivoted from saying this specific thing to trying to encourage differently. Stuff like:

   "At some point you just have to stop and figure something out, and sometimes you can get it wrong, but it's more about being willing to fix it if you mess it up than it is about never messing up."

   I also like to point out that everything we use is human-made in software and none of us did it all alone. We're all nudging along each other's work and help is everywhere.

     I think I finally have some words for my feelings regarding the "none of us knows what we're doing, we're all just trying to suck less" perspective.

     Saying specifically that thing is "nice" but not "kind." It is achieving good feelings and psychological safety by way of deception.

     I remain hopeful that we can be welcoming to beginners and avoid gatekeeping, while still acknowledging that there *is* actually a lot of accumulated knowledge and wisdom that is beneficial to learn.
