     I'm not sure how the Scofield Bible has impacted the common versions we have today, such as KJV, NIV, ESV etc... Something I want to learn more about.

     But in each of those Peter and Stephen are pretty clear in Acts that it wasn't the Romans. They repeatedly reminded the Sanhedrin and Jews among the crowds that they killed their own messiah.
